Dinosaurs died out s uddenly about 65million years ago.Some s cientists think it came aft er an unexpected incident when a huge r ock fr om space hit th e earth and put too much dust into the air.Others think the earth got too h ot for the d inosaurs t o live on any mor e.Nobody knows for s ure why and how d inosaur disappeared from th e earth in s uch a short t ime. We know many other wild plants,animals,ins ects and birds hav e d ied out more recent ly.According t o a U N r eport ,s ome 844 a nimals and plants hav e d isappeared in the last 500 years.Th e dod o is one of them.It liv ed on th e Island of Maurit ius and was a ver y fr iendly animal.Pleas e listen t o a story of the dodo and how it disappear ed fr om the earth. (3) The eturn of the milu eer My name is Linhui.I like to tell stor ies about people who work together.What is ev en b etter is when countries h elp each other and build a good friendship.An excellent ex ample of this h appened when Br itain and China work ed togeth er to bring th e Milu de er b ack to China.The Milu deer,a species with lar ge horns,used to be common in China long ago.Like other d eer they live together and eat gr ass and the soft parts of tr ees such as small br anch 77d5722791c69ec3d5bbfd0a79563c1ec5dad7dau deer wer e often hunted for food or sport in th e past.Th e ,Ming and Qing dynasties d id not protect them and many wer e killed.That is how the Milu deer d isappeared from China.Luckily b efor e all of th em were killed,s ome wer e tak en t o Br itain to improv e th e envir onment of the beautiful park w hich belonged to th e Duke of Bedford.He liked them so much that h e t ook them all th e way from China to Britain.Th e Milu deer liked th e cool,wet w eather in England and their numb er incr eas ed year by year.As a res ult,when in 1985 the gov ernment of China wanted to reintroduce the Milu d eer,the D uke of Bedford was happy to help.The first d eer came back t o China t o the Nanhaizi Milu Park 20 kilomet ers s outh of Beijing and the centr e in Dafeng,Jingsu Pr ovince.The deer centainly s eem happy to be back in China b ecause th eir numbers have gr own rapidly.Th ere ar e now so many of them that a new park has b een opened for them in Heb ei Prov ince.At the moment the Milu d eer live in centres wher e they ar e b eing w ell prot ect ed and care for .It is h oped that one day ther e will b e enough animals to let them liv e in the wild again.So Brit ain helped China by bringing b ack an animal that had disappear ed fr om its h omeland.This is a good ex ample of friendship and under standing between thes e two countries. Do you sing K araoke and pr etend you are a famous singer lik e Song Zuying or Liu Huan? To be h onest, a lot of people attach great import ance t o b ecoming r ich and famous. But just now do people for m a band? Many musicians meet and for m a band becaus e th ey like to write and play th eir own music.Th ey may start as a gr oup of high-school st udents, for whom pr actising their music in someone s h ous e is the first st ep to fame. S ometimes th ey may play to pass ers-by in the street or subway so that they can ear n some extra money for th ems elv es or to pay for their instruments. Later they may give perfor mances in pubs or clubs, for which they ar e paid in cash. Of course they hope t o make r ecords in a studio and sell millions of copies to b ecome millionair es! Howev er, th ere was one band t hat started in a differ ent way. It was called the Monk ees and b egan as a TV show. Th e musicians wer e to play jokes on each other as well as play music, most of which was bas ed loos ely on the Beatles. Th e TV or ganiz er had planned to find four musicians who could act as well as sing. They put an adv ertis ement in a newspaper looking for rock mus icians, but th ey could only find one who was good enough. They had to use act ors for the other three members of theband. As some of these act ors could not sing well enough, th ey h ad to rely on other mus icians t o help them. So d uring th e broadcasts th ey just pr etended t o sing. Anyh ow their performances w ere humorous enough to be copied by other gr oups. They wer e so popular that their fans formed clubs in order to get more familiar with them. Each week on TV, the Monkees would play and s ing songs written by other mus icians. How ever, after a year or s o in which they became mor e s erious ab out th eir w ork, the Monkees started to play and s ing their own songs like a r eal band. Th en they prod uced their own records and st arted t ouring and playing th eir own mus ic. In the USA they became ev en mor e popular than th e Beatles and s old ev en mor e r ecords. The b and br oke up about 1970, b ut happily th ey reunited in the mid-1980s. They pr oduced a new record in 1996, with which they celebrated their for mer time as a real b and. Fr edd y the frog（Ⅱ）Not long aft er Fr eddy and th e band became famous, they visit ed Britain on a brief tour. Fans showed their d evot ion by waiting for h ours t o get t ickets for th eir concerts . Fr eddy was now quite confid ent when h e went into a concert hall. Th ey tried to hide in the reading r ooms of libraries, but it was us eles s. Someone was always th ere!
