Ai Wu (1904 -1992), originally named Tang Daogeng, was from Xindu, Sichuan. In his early life, he spent times in Kunming of China, Myanmar, Malaysia and Singapore, working as a newspaper proofreader and a primary school teacher. He was a member of the League of Leftist Writers. He wrote about customs, habits and ways of life in border and remote regions and portrayed people pushed out of the normal rails of life.
