Narration: (Para. 1-4) The father, severely crippled and short, had to put his hand on the son’s arm for balance when he walked out or to be pulled on a child’s wagon with steel runners through the streets of Brooklyn to the subway entrance and then pulled back home when his work day was over. Comments: (Para. 5) I am amazed at how much courage it must have taken for a grown man to subject himself to such shame and stress…without bitterness and complaint.
