二、课程简介
本课程是非英语专业本科生的一门公共基础课，选用教材为高等教育“十一五”国家级规划教材《21世纪大学英语》，是一门以外语教学理论为指导，以英语语言知识与应用技能、跨文化交际和学习策略为主要内容，以培养学生较强的英语综合应用能力，增强自主学习能力和综合文化素养，从而适应今后工作、进一步学习和进行国际交流的需要为目的，集多种教学模式和教学手段为一体的课程。

四、教学的目的、要求与方法
（一）教学目的
本课程的教学目的是培养学生听、说、读、写、译等方面英语综合应用能力，掌握扎实的词汇、语法知识，达到高等学校大学英语四级（College English Test 4, 简称CET-4）的水平，同时增强自主学习能力和综合文化素养，并为今后的英语学习打下坚实基础；同时重视培养学生实际使用英语进行交际的能力。 （二）教学要求
具体地，通过本课程的学习，学生应该达到下列要求：
1、听力理解能力：能基本听懂英语国家人士的谈话和讲座，能基本听懂题
材熟悉、篇幅较长的国内英语广播或电视节目，能掌握其中心大意，抓住要点和相关细节。
2、口语表达能力：能够和英语国家的人士进行比较流利的会话，较好地掌握会话策略，能基本表达个人意见、情感、观点等，能基本陈述事实、事件、理由等，表达思想清楚，语音、语调基本正确。
3、阅读理解能力：能基本读懂英语国家大众性报刊杂志的一般性题材的文章，能就阅读材料进行略读或寻读，能正确理解中心大意，抓住主要事实和有关细节。
4、书面表达能力：能就一般性的主题基本表达个人观点，能描述各种图表，能在半小时内写150词左右的短文。表达内容完整、条理清楚、文理通顺。
5、翻译能力：能借助词典翻译一般英语国家报刊上题材熟悉的文章，能摘译一般的英语科普文章。译文基本通顺、达意，无重大理解和语言错误。 （三）教学方法
在课堂教学中，教师要始终坚持“以学生为中心”的教学组织原则。学生通过参与课堂活动，使语言的“输入”与“输出”达到有效的平衡，语言基本技能得到协调发展。教师应注重培养学生的学习能力，学习兴趣和研究能力，在教学中要开展形式多样的教学活动。在加强基础训练的同时，采用启发式、讨论式、发现式和研究式的教学方法，充分调动学生学习的积极性，激发学生的学习动机，最大限度地让学生参与学习的全过程。
