这首歌前面部分描述的是波诺对妻子的爱，最后上升到宗教层面，超越了世俗的爱，升华到灵性层面的爱。这首歌可以看作是波诺借由对妻子的爱和基督对话，人人对话过渡到人神对话的过程。基督教文化认为，上帝造人，所以人类的所有世俗的美好情感都是上帝赋予的，“爱”尤其如此。所以波诺在最后说，他为什么有“爱”，那是因为基督的教导。但是他觉得自己离基督或理想还很远，说明他觉得“爱”还没散播开，他的救世或弥赛亚情结再次涌现。如果关注近来世界局势，比如巴以重燃战火，叙利亚，伊拉克，乌克兰危机，中东乱局，那么可以看到这是人类缺乏“爱”的结果。错过了光明，遇上了黑暗，世界不让我们这些有“爱”的人代言的话，难道人类就没救了吗？当然不是。他给出了方案：质疑黑暗，护卫光明。

这又是一首可以从多角度多层面解读的歌曲，类似1987年的经典曲目With Or
WithoutYou, 再次体现了U2的伟大。
