2. (L17P42) The tomb contained more treasure than any of us had ever seen before, as well as the mummy of the king.
3. (L23P42) Upon their entering the tomb, Carter’s lucky pet bird, which he had left in Cairo, was swallowed by a snake.
4. (P48) Carter said that they had hidden the entrance to the tomb.

Step4: Present perfect or past perfect?
1. The present perfect tense is used when we are talking about a past event which relates to the present time.
e.g. Howard Carter is one of the most famous explorers the world has ever known.
2. The past perfect tense is used when we are discussing the past and want to talk about an even earlier event.
e.g. Not long after the tomb had been opened, people in Carter's team began to fall ill and die strangely.
