From may fourth movement in China, social roles of men and women have been changed a lot. Women become more significant nowadays. They stand out to have their own businesses differ from stayed behind men. Many feminists hold a true that men and women should share same roles in society.
Actually, to me, I’m afraid of feminists. I still support that men and women should play different roles in society today.
Gender equality should be divided into two parts: social roles(I think it means the division of labor) and social status. Both of them are not causal relationship. I don’t agree with men and women play different roles in society is a symbol of discrimination.
First and foremost, the division of labor is originally divided by biological differences since ancient era. Women are physically weaker than men and take responsibility of bear. Therefore, they more often stay at home. Then, men have to find a way feeding the family, hunting food and provide their securities. So, this is the original form of “ the men outside the women inside ”. Itseems weaken nowadays. But it’s a natural division so that we cannot be contra-natural.
In the second place, despite biological differences, characteristics of women and men are unlike. Men enjoys competing, invading and compared with women they are more rational. Women are mostly emotional, sensitive so that when we confront social pressure of work and competition we may not react better than men.
Our local religious Taoism promotes \women, yang stands for men. They are equal. If there are both yin and yang, symbiosis can co-exist. Compared with the natural world without hierarchy, gender division of labor is also divided by nature. A lot of things are imposed on people by themselves. We want to change fast, but undermining the balance of instinct. And then evolving a range of contradictions. If we think less, everything will still running on the right way.
To conclude, Georg Hegel once said “Only in the state does man have a rational existence”. That’s why women and men still play different roles nowadays is reasonable.
